AC2: A Mountain Is A Mouth

7 03 2009

The following is taken from Randal Miller’s blog, This Blog IsA Typo:

Last Month, our first Album Club selection, Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion  took us to the cutting edge of modern music.  (Read my analysis of the album and contribute your own here.)  I thought that with our second choice, we should listen to a brand new album from a band who is much more rooted in music’s past.  Bruce Peninsula is a new Montreal band whose unique brand of Indie Rock represents a modern take on the classic Gospel Choir.  The large collective is receiving rave reviews from Canada’s music bloggers, being named one of “The Hottest Bands in Canada, 2008“by a large group of Canadian critics after only releasing a couple of songs on the Internet.  Having listened to these few songs, I have to agree that Bruce Peninsula really have something special going on.  However, the band has had little press south of the 49th, which I think gives us a great chance to hear a promising new act before our perceptions are too much altered by any influential music critics, such as Pitchfork Media.  So, my album Club Selection is Bruce Peninsula’s A Mountain Is A Mouth.

Listen to a one of the ablum’s great tracks: Steamroller.
